Get ICEd

Should I stay or should I go?

I’m Not Kidding

I mean, I did make up the tagline “For a Safer America.” But the Immigration and Customs Enforcement folks really did announce an ICE Citizens Academy in Chicago. Certainly this is just for education, like a police department tour, right?

“attendees will participate in scenario-based training and exercises conducted in a safe and positive environment, including, but not limited to defensive tactics, firearms familiarization, and targeted arrests.”

So says NPR.

To Be Fair and Balanced…

Here’s what Fox 11 in Los Angeles has to say on the ICE Citizens Academy in the City of Angels:

When they show the process of targeting someone they are going to arrest, for example, they hope people will see they are not doing “the raids that we are accused of, just arresting a group of random people, are not reality. We know who we are targeting, the particular individuals and citizens in the academy see the whole process.”

To Be Even More Fair and Balanced. And Also Honest.

The Fox 11 quote above suggests a certain discernment in who is targeted for deportation. That’s encouraing. Until millions of international college students who are in the United States legally get targeted:

International students will be forced to leave the U.S. or transfer to another college if their schools offer classes entirely online this fall, under new guidelines issued Monday by federal immigration authorities.

I’m sure none of the citizens who volunteer for this kind of thing will have anger management, impulse control or psychological issues that would make them a danger to others. I mean, an ICE Citizens Academy would certaintly not attract anyone who is imbalanced, with an ax to grind, in Trump’s America. Would it?

Thanks for reading this far.
