Next Week: Adverse Responses
There is another comic below, should you decide to skip the written stuff.
Completely Unrelated, Chapter 009:
Here’s another line from the poem I wrote for student worker Z, based on questions she asked and our conversations that ensued:
Express Appreciation
For those of us who grew up starved for appreciation, which somedays I think is many of us and other days most of us, there is a way to heal that wound.
Express appreciation to others.
Give them what it is for which we long.
But not just random appreciation. Sincere and deep appreciation. Specific appreciation. For what you see in them that you, well, appreciate. Feel gratitude for.
This may seem counter-intuitive — to give away that which we long for, and even to expect nothing in return. This practice, though, is the quickest, most effective way I know to start feeling more appreciation ourselves.
Please give this a go.
Daily.
And write down what you experience for a few weeks. I’m betting you’ll feel the improvement.
I am grateful that you read this far.
Peace,
Brian
